Sankofa Ghana Naming Ceremony
Sankofa Ghana Naming Ceremony
Experience a homecoming and African naming ceremony
Service Description
This experience offers a chance of a lifetime to re-establish contact and ties with your Ghanaian / African heritage, roots, and ancestry. You will be given a traditional African name that corresponds to the day of the week that you were born. "A man's most potent instrument is his name," was said. A name that accurately describes who he is and what he believes, as opposed to a forced moniker that has no connection to his culture or personality. Get a traditional Ghanaian name, join a Ghanaian village, and take part in activities. Enjoy and take part in the traditional cultural performances that the residents will present as a way of saying AKWAABA which translates as "welcome to the community." This experience is solely for people with African ancestry or descendants, as this is a special healing process for us! This can be emotional for both locals and the brothers & sisters as both see each other as close family and relatives ( if Slavery had not torn us apart!). You also get to see the beauty of the countryside. This experience is done at a Historic Slave Market and River Site, where slaves from Sub Saharan Africa were taken to have their last bath before being taken to the dungeons at Cape Coast Castle or Elmina Castle. What to expect? 1. Assin Manso Slave Market and River Site is particularly worth seeing as a prelude to viewing Cape Coast slave castle since you will be following the path taken by the ancestors of many African Americans. During the infamous transatlantic slave trade, Assin Manso was one of the largest slave markets in Ghana. [Duration - 2 hours 30 minutes] 2. Cape Coast Castle The greatest structure bearing the scars of the transatlantic slave trade, Cape Coast Castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Like most of Ghana's old defenses, it was heavily involved in the slave and gold transactions. [Duration - 2 hours] What's Included Air-conditioned SUV vehicle Authentic Ghanaian Kente Cloth Ghanaian Traditional beads Certificate Lunch Bottled water All fees and taxes Tour guide
